“A Guarding Great Snake who knows your intentions…”
"Those who know say the Uktena is a great
snake, as large around as a tree trunk, with horns on its
head, and a bright blazing crest like a diamond on its forehead, and
scales glowing like sparks of fire. It has rings or spots of color along its
whole length, and cannot be wounded except by shooting in the seventh spot from
the head, because under this spot are its heart and its life. The
blazing diamond is called Ulun'suti—"Transparent"—and he who can win
it may become the greatest wonder worker of the tribe. But it is worth
a man's life to attempt it, for whoever is seen by the Uktena is
so dazed by the bright light that he runs toward the snake instead of trying to
escape..." - James Mooney
"According to Mooney (1900:458-459), the name Uktena is
derived from akta, or eye, and implies being a “strong looker,” as
everything is visible to it (i.e., it can see thoughts). From the same
root is derived akta’tĭ, “to see into closely” which is also the
Cherokee word for a magnifying lens and telescope. So the name Uktena implies
that it sees thoughts and it does so in an accurate way; knowledge that comes
in useful to predict enemy tactics (Jannie Loubser - E-mail communication July
21, 2015). "

Thanks for posting this Tim, I myself can appreciate such a notion as you well know. I'm glad because it may compel people who are interested and live in these areas to go out and maybe take another look. As a result of entertaining this notion on my YouTube channel, several folks who live in various locations throughout the northeast have gone out to take another look at the stone walls. I firmly believe that the "information" in these stone walls goes even further than just the "effigies" which of themselves indicated the spiritual nature within them. I haven't come to any solid conclusions just yet but I'm working on trying to determine what is being said possibly in these walls. There is something more there and the reason I say this is because of areas in the walls in which a certain symmetry occurs where there are "groupings" of stones. I think they may be a "numerical" indicator that specifies the particular area they are in as if they were "localities". I'm trying now to get funding to go and do more research along this particular line of thought and hopefully I will do it soon. As I've repeated over and over to those interested in the stone walls, there's more to them than we think, something deeper in their meaning. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that it's highly likely that "identifiers" are present in them. Thanks for the post Tim!!
